Self-interest cannot create society. In its essence, this is basic animal behavior. My survival is my highest priority. But, I will die anyway. Thus, nothing remains after me. Collectivism, no matter how flawed it is, is the only way forward. Egotism is on the other hand sign of decadence. When you have egotism on the rise (like today in the West), you inevitably have a dying society.

Well, you would not persuade him to turn around by TIK's videos. 😁 Marxism is dumbed down materialism - i.e. your success in life is determined by material wealth. National-socialism is more refined materialism, i.e. it is based on genetics - your genes determine your future. Fascism is almost pure idealism, i.e. if you believe in something you could create it. What is most important : you do not have alternative to offer to your step-son. All you have is a stupid ideology of egotism (Ayn Rand and similar crap) , that is presently ruining the West.

user Problem with your line of thinking : two or more cancer cells will never create an organism. There is no honor among thieves, i.e. members of criminal organization often betray each other. I agree that too much collectivism is bad (GULAG etc) , but even totalitarian societies are able to create and leave something to next generations, while purely egotistic individuals only leave ruins.

Peikoff is a philosopher of decadence, just like Ayn Rand. They both promoted egotism as a virtue (so called "individualism") , despite the fact that neither of them could survive even few days alone in the forest 😁Both of them envisaged some kind of society of "free individuals", failing to explain why would anyone voluntarily obey the laws of such society. For example, if I do not have money, what would stop me from stealing except the fear of punishment ? But if I bribe the cop (let say with half of the loot), why wouldn't he let me steal in peace ? This is simplifications, but in fact corrupt and decadent societies operate like that. And yes, both of them were Js 😆
