The problem with big box stores is they never have what you need. I can guarantee that the original bolts were much stronger than the ones you put in. I do have real hardware stores that have a much better selection but they are pricey and FAR away (one hour round trip). Your shop could really use a bolt assortment, both metric and U.S., as commented by others. I would let the owner know about your welded up stud in case he wants to find the right hardware for it. I am afraid that that stud might break in the future.
