  1. I wish I was in your area. Those old springs make good rock hounding tools for splitting shale when looking for fossils. Eric O would have had those springs off in half the time with his torch.

  2. Probably done that way for assembly. Automotive engineers do not worry about getting things apart again. More time and money for the dealer.
