  1. Mistreatment are common in mental institutes due to the staff lack of training and understanding of the patients’ needs. This mistreatment can take the form of verbal abuse, emotional manipulation, physical restraint, and improper medication. People with mental illness are not bad or evil and should not be treated with hate and punishment they are still humans and should be treated with respect and empathy. There need to be reforms to ensure that mental institutes are safe havens for those who need help and guidance. In an unequal society mental illness will always exist and increase, people need to be provided with opportunities to improve their lives. It is unfair for those who suffer from mental illness to be subject to inhumane treatment. People with mental illness are in need of help, not judgment. Therefore, reforms must be put in place to ensure that mental institutes are places of compassion and understanding.
