It’s still bigamy here in the UK. However, our political leaders made accommodation for multiple marriages by bending common-law rules. Child Benefit is, you know, problematical, even with the cap.

@lhurst9550 when your standard of living is already low, where do you go? The minimum wage was a cynical device instituted to keep workers - even skilled and experienced workers - on the breadline. Oh, and to keep them voting Labour, the party which pushed for the minimum wage…

I grew up during the same period and learned that families could live on one wage. By the time I came to marry, that was no longer true.

I’m sorry, but you’re repeating a straw man argument. Traditional feminists support the family with the call for equal pay for equal work. This means that it’s quite possible for a woman to work in a better paying job than her husband who may take on the role of homemaker. It also means that, if the husband is unable to work, the woman can take his place as breadwinner. It was a different world back in post-WWII through to the 1980s. Going on the pan-crack wasn’t a lifestyle choice. I rather think you should be turning your ire onto Fourth Wave Marxist Feminists. You know, the ones who called the trad fems “squares of grass” for not approving of the Woke agenda.

Look up An Essay on the Principle of Population. Learn about Malthusianism. Then you’ll be as cynical as me.

You know, when things get too crowded, there’s always scope for… Reducing the Surplus Population. Please look that up. Dickens was making an important social comment.

Good luck to you - you can obviously afford to have a family on one wage. As a working class woman, I had my two babies in my late - very late - 30s, when my husband and I thought we could afford to support them with our combined wages. It was a struggle… My now-grown sons have no hope of a job paying more than minimum wage, finding a wife, or affording a home if their own. We - my family and I - are The Surplus Population. Look that up and you’ll see exactly why we’re in this fix!

There’s a nation which strictly controlled the number of children a couple could have. This resulted in an unusual number of male births hem-hem… Despite now having so many adult males who could self-identify as women and get pregnant, that nation is now ordering females to breed. Strange old world, isn’t it?

Depends which one you are referring to. I rather think there’s a little critical something people are missing here. The world’s real problem has boiled down to a single set of beliefs and behaviours currently under scrutiny.
