  1. Russia is an ENERGY superpower. The US and EU need to keep it afloat to avoid a 1979 oil crisis-like situation. Russia is also Europe's most populous country (despite its slow growth or aging). It's a very resilient economy. Qatar has also used sanctions to its advantage.
