Nehru's main mistake was failing to reform Muslim personal laws. From whatever I read, It appears he was never hugely supportive of any religious doctrine but pandered to Muslims under pressure from the Left and some who sold him the idea of Pakistan ultimately doing a "Ghar wapasi". Secularism was murdered before its "birth" in India. The most basic societal principle is RESPECT BEGETS RESPECT. Hindus were pushed to the margins. Our identity was mocked, and we were paying reverse "jizya" in a free India. The Indian Right has problems, but the Indian Left is the PROBLEM.

@MrAntonysimon The Hindu reforms led to today's united Hinduism. The rigid caste system has diluted to a large extent and the status of women has elevated due to Hindu reforms. Muslims were deprived of this. Self preservation is common to all species and identities. RSS-BJP got the Hindu leadership because "seculars" of the Left never catered to Hindu preservation. Lastly, ideological dominance is a cyclical phenomenon. It is the time of Right now.

@pardeeptandon Dude, your "churan" has expired. OBCs are ruling the roster. An OBC PM did the "pranpratisthaspana". The so-called "manuvad" has no place in the mainstream. The fringe elements and isolated cases are countered even by the Hindu right because they know the importance of Hindu unity. Newverrthess, nice to see you opening with a joke.

@real_kim8455 Nope. BJP's stint in power is contingent upon the support of OBCs and SCs. That renders the rigorous extremists powerless. The Muslim problems are different. They have lost respect from their fellow Hindus. They need to have an open discussion about religious reforms, acknowledge Hindu historical grievances, and most importantly "triple talaq" the Left which is only taking them for a ride since 1947. Babri is NEVER going to come back irrespective of the Govt in power. It never belonged to Muslims to begin with. I don't know about the fate of Kashi and Mathura but denying the act of injustice dond to Hindus is no path to reconciliation.

@pardeeptandon Dude Bhagwat has already blamed priests for creating caste system and has also called it outdated. There is an Indian express article on this which you can check. There are also videos on YouTube. Second, I have no problem giving credit to Nihang Sikhs. Third, Congress deserving credit is RIDICULOUS. Even then all arguments come into play if Congress comes forward to seek credit. They want nothing to do with the Temple. Let's see if Rahul even dares to visit the temple and declare his father's role in Shilanyas. Till then they have no claim over Ram as they themselves disowned the God when they questioned his existence in the Supreme court

@pardeeptandon "Icon" of Manvad? Stop snorting cheap things. RSS and VHP played a key role in the Ayodhya movement. Their presence was only an acknowledgement of that role. For me it's Modi who matters. He is the "inclusive" Hindutva icon. You need not believe. There are many who do and they are electorally more relevant.

@real_kim8455 Nope your facts are WRONG. Champat Rai is a Vaishya. Modi is a Teli. The bhumi poojan was also by an OBC. The movement itself included Hindus of all castes.

@abhinavc Firstly, an audit into Nehru's tenure is perfectly justified. Nehruvian Socialism led to Indian entrepreneurship never picking up and Nehruvian secularism is there for everybody to see. Whatever the reason the ideas failed and led to a system of pandering and votebank in India. The rise of Hindu right was inevitable. It's also interesting to see how the RSS has evolved. It has abandoned its rigidity to accommodate a wider Hindu audience. Nehru's was an era of Congress monopoly. He had no competition hence 3 terms in power. Congress also won elections despite defeat in 1962 China war. That said, Nehru was very popular in his time and generally speaking a well intentioned man. However, we Indians are neither slaves to his lineage nor to Congress. We are perfectly entitled to vote and choose our political path. Eras and epochs CHANGE and so do people. We elect Govts that cater to their aspirations. If Congress was perfect, BJP would never have come to power and if BJP was perfect Congress wouldn't have got 50 seats. Politics must be left as politics only. It is cyclical. Congress got 6 decades. It couldn't deliver upon India's aspirations. BJP speaks about people's aspirations while Rahul is offering another cocktail of the failed Nehruvian Socialism. The Left and Right dominate politics in cycles. We are among the lucky few countries that holds space for both. It is Congress's time for reinventing itself or dying and making space for a new party. I don't think it's possible without the Gandhis exiting the political scene. To say that we are down the path of Pakistan is a mockery of the voter and arrogance of the highest order. Arrogance that's actually aimed at morphing one's defeatism. There are somethings we can only live at agree to disagree.

@pardeeptandon I doubt you are even a Hindu. Nobody even talks about Manuvad in BJP. Their entire politics hinges on Hindu unity. They sweep Hindi heartland and Karnataka with over 50% votes. It's not possible without Dalits and OBCs voting for them en bloc. Continue peddling your lies. OBCs and Dalits firmly stand with the BJP.

Punjab's current problems have nothing to do with Khalistan. In fact, all through the Khalistan movement, it was India's richest state. All its problems are post-2000s. Its wealth became its curse. The lethargy among its youth and overdependence on agriculture led to the state's decline. However, despite the slump, Punjab is amongst India's least unequal states and least poor states. Most people have their own houses. Also, Punjab is 40% Hindu. Its current problems are drugs, Christian missionaries, and the inability to shift away from agriculture. Sri Lanka has always been a Buddhist country irrespective of the Govt in power. It was an Asian superstar (way ahead of India) until its people elected Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The inexperienced idiot and a dynast nuked their economy. The lesson to be drawn from the Lanka debacle is to NEVER ELECT INEXPERIENCED DYNASTS like Gotabaya and Rahul Gandhi. Bangladesh is Muslim and, by character, religiously TOXIC. The UN Human Rights Office of High Commissioner (OHCHR) has called it - "a Secular State with a State Religion". The US regularly rebukes Bangladesh for being intolerant of Hindu minorities. Ram not being a Hindu king is such a puerile argument. Firstly, Ram is a mythological character, but even if he was a historical character, he would have been a Sanatani. The later date coinage of Sanatan Dharma is Hinduism. There is no Brahmanical Hinduism, and there are no multiple Hinduisms. It is ONE Hinduism with multiple FLEXIBILITIES. Even Kabirpantis who do not believe in idol worship identify themselves as Hindus. All things are accepted in Hinduism. There is no "confirmation" or reading of "Kalma" required to become a Hindu. Lastly, the Hindu movement is not religious but rather cultural; hence, it finds resonance among the masses, which you people will never understand. Among the most economically thriving countries of the world are cultural countries. Tiny Israel leads in global innovation. The wealthy Middle East is opening up without compromising on its cultural ethos. Even many European countries have not given up on their cultural identity. The ones that gave up and allowed space for refugees are now struggling. The US is in trouble because its societal values have collapsed. BJP is leading the nation well. There are problems that need to be addressed and there are many things that the BJP is not doing right. However, the alternatives have ZERO PLAN and A MAN CHILD whose only qualification is his surname. If it's a mistake then so be it. The bottom line is even if societies are making mistakes. They have the right to commit the mistakes and learn from those mistakes. You can have your "I told you so" when things go awry.

@imranshariff5412 Learned in Madrasa school? Lawmaking lies with Lawmakers not your Mullahs. Hindu pandits didn't make laws. It is documented history that Nehru wanted to reform Muslim laws but was stopped by Congress leaders and left advisors of the time who feared conservative backlash. The same people forced Rajiv Gandhi to overturn the Supreme Court Judgement on Shah Bano. Anyways you people are beyond engagement. You are BJP's biggest proponents/campaigners through your stupidity.

@abhinavc Not mixing issues at all nor "blaming" Nehru as a person only his policies. I should have clarified India evolving into Pak is @BharathatisIndia 's comment, a serial fake news peddler, who was trying to use your comments to justify his filth. Votebank/identity politics is inevitable in any democracy. Every democracy evolves and learns and adapts. The left and right are important poles of politics. You need both for a meaningful discussion. A party like BJP which caters to India's cultural ethos is very important. Congress needs to free itself from dynasty and build itself as a credible alternative. Lastly, why are you touchy with respect to Nehru? I get that Nehru was in a precarious situation. However, just to fetch endorsement from an Arab King, he covered idols in Varanasi and stopped puja. No matter how you project, it was a violation of people's basic freedom. The amendment to restrict free speech was also Nehru's. Finally giving Bharat Ratna to himself was another blunder. These are all bad precedents. I think while Nehru's intentions were pious like every other PM of the country, he too played all brands of politics and as a politician he was meant to play politics.
