The biggest problem with Modi is his inability to go all the way with reforms. The fact that CAA, labor laws, Farm laws, and other reforms are still pending suggests volumes about the "bottle-necks" in the Modi administration. There is too much weightage assigned to electorally mathematics and he is deeply INSECURE about losing votes. This is really hurting him.

The survey was taken during the time of economic despair and hence there could be recency bias involved in the ratings. However, nearly 300 seats and no clear preference for anyone among the opposition indicate that there is no whole abandonment which indicates that the voters are willing to swing back if they see "IMPROVEMENT".

"It's the economy, stupid" - It catches up sooner or later but the trend in the surveys suggests that the BJP has about 30-33% committed vote. That won't break like the INC's 20%. The good thing is inflation is cyclical and he may get that on track but a growth rate of 10% may not be so easy.

@tomriddle4110 Jan to August. But overall I have noticed that the only thing working for him at the moment is the "There is Modi ONLY" (TIMO factor). Even core BJP voters think that BJP should move beyond Modi and maybe elevate perhaps Gadkari. Yogi's as second was a surprise for me because at least in Maha he is seen as someone who can teach the you-know-which community a lesson but not really a PM material though he has his fans.

@amansaxenaa7 RSS would want him in a heartbeat but I doubt BJP will ever put a Brahmin in charge again. It will disturb their electoral mathematics. Also, Gadkari is not just any Brahmin, he is from the highest i.e. priestly brahmin. That may not augur well for optics and there is a sense that Fadnavis gamble may have backfired for the BJP and cost them a significant Maratha vote after Sharad Pawar indirectly made it us vs them. At least that's what happens in Maharashtra-Goa. I do not know how it will play out in the rest of India but the truth is BJP cannot afford to lose its strong but brittle aggregate OBC vote which has delivered it two elections.

@rz4283 You are mistaken. The general public is always dismayed by the lethargy exhibited by the PSUs. It won't hurt Modi electorally. The problem is his inability to go all the way with reforms. Despite the majority, he repeatedly comes under pressure and then is forced to backtrack. They think too much about voter arithmetic and that is why economically they are unable to perform.

@rz4283 Yes. It is the UP elections that are holding them back. Elections are a never-ending cycle. If he counts votes at such a micro-level then he will never be able to act decisively on reforms because unlike national security reforms will never have a unified voice. Anyways, I think he should have avoided the embarrassment on Farm laws by giving the option to states to implement. Punjab & Haryana farmers grow only rice and wheat. It won't have hurt their procure but benefitted states like Maha which grow other crops.

@tomriddle4110 BJP won't split. Anyways if they deliver just clock about 10% growth and a figure higher than China every year till 2024, they won't be in any trouble.

@tomriddle4110 Maybe 7.5% won't cut it this time because for a full majority because Modi is everything about headline hunting. A 10% CAGR would take India past the 4 Trillion dollar mark. If he achieves that then there won't be any end to his drum beating during the election campaign. Also, Anjana, Arnab, Rajat, Sudhir, Deepak, and the gang will amplify it to 100% with the predictable downplaying of Rajdeep-Pagalika, Rubbish, etc which will annoy the voters. But if he fails on the economy then although I may remain loyal to the BJP, however, I am not sure if Hindutva and national security will alone cut it.

@tomriddle4110 He will if gets his act together. Economies grow faster during the recovery post-recession because there is a lot of catching up to do. Usually consumer sentiment and confidence fuel that growth. And anyways he promised $5 trillion, if he is not able to deliver even $4 then he is not adding any value. It is perfectly normal for political parties to have dedicated voters. The terms "bhakt" and "chamcha" are derogatory and infringe upon one's freedom of speech and right to vote. Even in the US and the UK, Republicans and Democrats have dedicated vote banks and only about 20-30% is the swing vote. In India, BJP has about 30% fixed vote. Congress has 20% and there is some with regionals and there is a large swing vote. It would be perfectly normal if the swing voters doesn't vote for the BJP if Modi cannot deliver $4 Trillion GDP.

@Aditya-vb8sm Pawns? Those parties get more votes and are bigger challengers to the BJP than the INC. If anything the Gandhis are the "hidden pawns" of the BJP.
