  1. Rakesh Tikait now wants to become the new Choudhary Charan Singh of the Jat hinterland. If he thinks he can do to Modi what Charan Singh did to Indira or his father did to Rajiv, he is MISTAKEN BIG TIME. He got his moment under the sun. He shouldn't wait for nightfall. Western UP is an unstable terrain. Caste alliances are fickle and often at odds over leadership even among the same castes. It is not difficult to arrange crowds in India (paid or genuine or otherwise). The larger landowning communities (Thakurs and Brahmins) of UP have been quiet. He risks burning his own hand if he stretches this long. Modi needs to diffuse this only in Haryana. Western UP, BJP can employ polarization. The BJP's success is that it has sold these reforms to the middle class.

  2. It is my belief that BJP will use that as a last resort. Punjab has already passed a resolution against the law. Effectively they have negated it (Although they would still need the President's consent). However, imagine the consequences. You allow it for this law and next you'll have to yield for CAA, Triple Talaq and so many others. Also, the BJP is no saint. They too are doing politics over it. UP elections are just about a year away. Not many caste groups would be comfortable with the return of a once-powerful caste group that has suddenly rose back to headlines.
