  1. A country adapts to circumstances. One needs Infra and Capital (through FDI or own savings) for manufacturing, both of which we did not have. It is TRUE that our "socialist" hungover of the time, compounded by our fear of enslavement by the West, did not allow us to import capital (But it was a collective national DECISION. Yes, a wrong one, but the debate is pointless today). Hence, it was logical for India to adopt less capital-intensive services (particularly IT). Now, we have already missed the MANUFACTURING train. There is no point in competing with China on its core competencies. Manufacturing outside China's areas of expertise is the only manufacturing that would be viable for India.
