This should have been done ages ago. After assessing all these stories, it feels like India was mostly ASLEEP until the 90s, and only post the liberalization reforms did things start moving in the country. This is most surprising, considering how India was NEVER really UNSTABLE during the 47 to 90 period. Truly, LOST DECADES OF ECONOMIC PROSPERITY. Hopefully, the future is more reform and economic prosperity oriented.

I think we need to cool it down with the usage of terms like "Big Bang" or "Big ticket" reforms. These terms have a tendency to make a lot of powerful people uncomfortable who then find gullible folks to blockade roads. I think we need to make peace with the fact that we won't be able to fully replicate the China model. Our growth will have to be driven by steadily growing domestic demand, investments esp FDI, and a little exports. Uttar Pradesh has started pulling in it's weight. Modi's Infra push is fetching us investments, services and factories. We don't have the China like human capital and it's one aspect that take years to make. We need to stop all our pointless LEFTIST courses and invest more in vocational courses with quick industry/service readiness. I think Modi has a 20 year plan.

@leaveme3559 Yes. There was discontent against Indira Gandhi and fury against Sanjay Gandhi's sterilization program but even then it never escalated to civil war or coups. In any case, emergency lasted only a few years. Perhaps, it's just the nature of Indians.
