  2. Hey SG, appreciate the analogy but I just want to remind you that Javed Jaffrey had a brilliant plan in place to take down his brother. He had almost succeeded had Akki not interfered. I think it is the most opportune time to strike China. I believe it is actually better to run in the other direction but not FORCE. The advantage of higher tax is that it increases Government revenue. This way Govt manages to tap into money otherwise put into savings. The argument here is that the Government can spend the whole revenue collection. However, considering BJP's main vote bank is middle class, Modi is unlikely to burden them. So I see it as a "Non-Starter". When the road split into two it would be wise to make the 3rd path. India's advantages: Largest domestic consumption market, young population, and Strong IT Sector. Disadvantage: Lack of Infra and manufacturing. Govt should expand the fiscal deficit and tap into foreign reserves which are over $400 billion (esp since Oil prices are low). Since our inflation rate is also low RBI activate should Quantitative Easing. This is a time to give tax breaks and create internal demand. I appreciate Modi's comment on "Self-reliance" and SG is right that we need to produce goods that the world wants but at the moment we are not sure about global demand. Trump-China Trade deal may likely be called off and Trump sure as hell will retaliate. We should provide safe havens to these American companies and foster alliances with Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. This Indo-Pacific alliance could be a stellar example of international cooperation. These countries have capital and Technology and India can fill in the labor gaps. Thes are also among the very few countries with whom India does not have any bad blood and they too are hostile to China. Covid19 need not change our trajectory in fact it should serve as acceleration.
