Comments by "Sankalp" (@sankalp6872) on "Modi has exhumed Nehru’s Global South. Which fails the test of geography, geopolitics and economics" video.
ThePrint started with a vision of being "unhyphenated". Back when he started it, had Shekhar concluded that media would never be able to break from a BJP or a Congress "overhang", ThePrint would never have completed its 6 years and obtained over 2.2 million subscribers. I agree that the "Global South" is loosely defined, and India has no Chinese/US-like capital to distribute, but we have a HUGE MARKET; while that may not be enough for bringing countries to our side, it is a powerful incentive to prevent them crossing over to the enemy side. Also, there are many areas of corporation with the Non-China 3rd world. Scoring neutrality is also a WIN.

To be fair, NAM never stood a chance. It was the post-colonial era, and the "3rd World" was ready to fall at anybody's feet for aid, food, military equipment, and protection. It is a new era now. I doubt Modi is serious about another block. It is mostly an issue-based dynamic block that will form and deform from time to time. India's main concern is to avoid choosing the "devil (the US) and deep sea (China)" situation.

@Hawa_Chapal Two problems: 1) From the US pov, India is a major commitment phobe. We have a remarkable consistency of not standing up for US causes irrespective of the party in power. Also, Turkey is likely to block such a move at Pak's insistence. 2) From India's pov, it will be an open "break up" with Russia, whose arms make up the bulk of our military. There is also the question of Russia being India's most reliable UNSC vote. In any case, QUAD and I2U2 are already the test grounds for any future US-India treaty-bound alliance. Frankly, I think India needs a lot more economic muscle to matter globally. These alliances will follow once we become a China-sized economy.

The video has emerged as fake and propagandist. The boy's uncle, who made the video, admitted that it is being shared with an incorrect and communal message. Meanwhile, another video has emerged from Kashmir where a student was mercilessly beaten up for writing "Jai Shree Ram" by a teacher of the Muslim faith. Sure, the second incident is not worthy of "National Interest", but the first incident is.

@libshastra If I had missed your point, I would NOT have upvoted your response. After NAM's cold shoulder to India's cause during the 1962 war, it was clear that the bloc was just an overhyped dinner party. India had no compelling reasons to follow through. Also, Nehru died soon after, and Indira Gandhi hitched and hiked the Soviet bandwagon. Also, Nehru wasn't NAM's only patron. Both Nasser and Tito had their own ambitions. Nehru had some vision. He had more failures than successes, but his vision was always a positive one. Indira Gandhi saw nothing beyond power and control. I see many on the right who are huge admirers of Indira Gandhi. The amount of damage she did to this country is immeasurable. Look no further than the paltry 2% growth rate under her. Many credit her for the creation of Bangladesh. I ask, how did that help us?

NAM was dead on arrival as it was a post-colonial time with every newly independent country needing military equipment, food, aid, or other things from one of the two Cold War era blocks. Modi's Global South has no such compulsions. Global South is not a static block. It's a bunch of countries united on shared interests like climate change overreach, sanctions overreach, and others. The loosely assembled group might become an effective pressure group within the UN and elsewhere.

The video had been exposed as fake and propagandist. Would you apologize for your "gyan" now? The boy's uncle, who made a video himself, admitted that it is being shared with an incorrect and communal message. Meanwhile, another video has come from Kashmir, where a student was beaten up for writing "Jai Shree Ram" by a teacher of the "M" faith.

@ash10k9 Fortunately, not the one where you were the principal. The police officer of the region has confirmed, and even Zoobear has begrudgingly uploaded the statement of the father of the pupil.
2
@ash10k9 Sure, Police, the pupil's parent's own statements don't matter, but somehow you, who were not even present on the scene, know everything. That said, I also mentioned the Kashmir incident, where a kid was beaten for writing "Jai Shree Ram" which you conveniently forgot. "Anti-Social" is selective, isn't it?
2
@ash10k9 I am not your "friend". I see how you treat "friends".I admire your dedication to Modi's re-election. Nobody does more campaigning work for Modi than the leftist cabal's open dismissal of the Hindu cause and pampering of Ms.

Shekhar Gupta is not Henry Kissinger. His views don't shape the foreign policy of Modi or anybody else. He is free to believe whatever he wishes to believe. Your view makes perfect sense, even at a pragmatic level. The Chinese overhang won't go away. In fact, it will only strengthen over the next 50 years. We need to set up our own emergency hotlines with other countries. Not everybody from NATO followed the US in its Afghan war. The same is the case with Russia's Ukraine war. We need to ensure that the Chinese or any other enemy manages to turn us into an international pariah.
