  1. Punjabis don't want a separate country. The state is 40% Hindu, and Sikh patriotism knows no bounds. Remember Operation Bluestar was led by Lt Gen Bulbul Brar (a Sikh soldier). Only some Canadian Sikhs want Khalistan. They have no roots here, and even if a Khalistan is to form, they won't come back.

  2. The Great White North holds no leverage. Canadian pension funds have massive investments in India, and 40,000 Indian students pour billions into the Canadian economy. Trudeau is gambling everything for 2% votes (of which not all might be Khalistanis). On the other hand, the Indian Govt got a raison d'etre to confiscate properties and curb the activities of Khalistanis, humiliate Trudeau, and shore up Modi's image.
