  1. Not just UC, every Hindu family does it today. Education is given priority even among extremely poor families. Nobody among Hindus has an "Aasmani Kitaab" to rely on nor do we have the notion of 72 hoors. We believe in "God helps those who help themselves".

  2. It's a Social Sciences study. One must refrain from implying CAUSATION. An IQ comparison of continents may suggest that Americans/Europeans have higher IQ scores. However, this does NOT IMPLY Americans/Europeans are more INTELLIGENT. The study includes 5 social groups - UC, OBCs, SC, ST, and Ms. The results are neither surprising nor worrying. The larger trend over the years is that life expectancy has gone up among all groups thanks to the progress in health care. I hope National Health Mission comes up with a similar study. They have access to better data which will eliminate some bias.

  3. They are not controlling for wealth. It is mostly a descriptive study. He has attached the paper. The point they are driving at is the mortality disadvantage faced by the marginalized groups. However, there are several other studies that have already established a strong correlation between being from marginalized social groups and poverty.
