A "week" is indeed a long time in politics. Just last week DK was berating the opposition for being directionless. The idea of uniting 60% against the BJP's 40% in a multiparty democracy like ours is a total sham. Even the CONgress in its heyday could never breach the 50% mark. A FORCED BIPOLAR contest against the modern-day HINDU HRIDAY SAMRAT could just as easily blowback. Predictably, the Opposition will play the caste card but Narendra Modi(an OBC) is CASTE++. The best bet for the opposition is to undercut BJP's 40%. There is also the issue of the Bihar model (which post-2010 has rescinded). Also, will the Gandhis agree to let go of the coveted crown?

Actually even the opposition has no inclination toward Nitish Kumar. It is just a fantasy promoted by select journos who have lost all hope in Rahul Gandhi. Bihar is no paragon of development and is heavily dependent on central funds. In fact, Tejaswi had built a good base among the youth by capitalizing on Kumar's failing image. He joined Nitish for power. However, with Nitish's goodwill eroded, performance and not caste alone will matter in polls.

DK are you teasing a thought experiment here? While the Matrix reference was good, perhaps you got the character wrong. With his frequent switching sides Nitish Kumar is more Agent Smith than Neo. The latest U-turn was fearing annihilation at the hands of the BJP. It is amusing to see several journos propping Kejriwal, KCR, Sharad Pawar, Mamata, and Nitish. None of them command even a 5% voter share. SO PLEASE GET REAL, 2024 will be yet another NaMo vs RaGa showdown (and perhaps even 2029). Post-poll alliances can't be ruled out but Modi and Rahul are the only two with a pan-India appeal.
