  1. Current? Those believing this need to get themselves checked into a mental asylum. Hindu-Muslim polarization has been on since the first invasion of Islamists. In 1947, this country split into TWO based on religion. Stop cursing IDENTITY. It's just a poor understanding of realpolitik. There is no politics or democracy without IDENTITY. Without IDENTITY, there is no SOCIETY. Until the 90s, CASTE identity reigned supreme, and SECULARS carved out caste+muslim vote banks. But casteism was never really TENABLE. It broke, and religion emerged as the new de facto identity. Even Sonia-led INC understood the Hindu sensitivity somewhat, but Rahul-led INC has all hardcore leftists who detest the HINDU religion. Hence, the party's current state.
