Comments by "Sankalp" (@sankalp6872) on "Why India’s R value falling to 1.08 offers glimmer of hope amid Covid gloom" video.
At the rate of 4 lakh cases per day, an R ratio of 1.08 is still very bad. A glimmer of hope are the lockdowns that are boring fruit in Maharashtra and Delhi. Karnataka is a matter of concern but Karnataka has a better healthcare system and lower fatality rates.

Pappu hi Pappu hai. Modi may have his share of failures but Pappu is not the alternative. I'll rather vote for Modi again than to see the run-away price of Amethi be the PM.

@Velvet Thunder Don't compare Kerala and the rest of India. Not that everything is good in Kerala but healthcare wise Kerala was never bad. Also, there is education and general awareness. On top of it, recent calamities like floods and the Nipah outbreak had prepared Kerala for this pandemic. I do not endorse communism but Pinarayi Vijayan is among the best administrators in the country. Industrialization is not his forte but disaster management is right up his alley. Even people in Delhi are educated but intelligence and education are not the same things. UP is the wild west of India and Bihar is another black hole. What can be the future of Bihar when the political alternative for it is Jungle Raj? CoVid requires extraordinary discipline something most Indians lack from childhood. Modi was the lion of Gujarat but he has failed miserably at Center because the system is so broken it never allows change. I hope the remainder of his term is focused on reforms irrespective of the political fall out. Anyways this country does not re-elect reformist PMs be it Narsimharao and Vajpayee. Anyways no point discussing the issues of this country. Things just don't change. Why should we waste our time discussing these matters?

@tomriddle4110 That is why everyone is so disappointed with Modi. In his quest for Congress-mukt-Bharat he forgot that he is the PM of India. He deserves all the flak that he is getting. In many cases, it is unwarranted like for e.g. the criticism of Central Vista. The ones who are criticizing Central Vista and Farm Laws are the closest alternatives to Modi. The other alternative is Mamata. The middle class is clearly caught between the devil and the deep sea. Modi needs to fix this. He has 3 years still. It is now or never- either fix India's growth story or else make things clear to us that you can't do. That way at least the youth of this country will know that the prospect of a better life is only abroad and not in India and set life goals accordingly.

@tomriddle4110 I know many hardcore BJP supporters are angry. Just today I was speaking to a doctor friend of mine who was once an ardent supporter of Modi but today has no kind words for the current dispensation. Ultimately at the end of our discussion we had no answer to the question if not Modi then who? Yes, Boris Johnson pulled a complete 180 after his initial mismanagement but UK didn't have deaths like this where people and relatives had to struggle for medicines and pay 10 times the prices. I know a BJP supporter won't go to Congress and AAP emerged no different from others in CoVid mismanagement. Perhaps only Kerala and Assam did well. Also, there is the possibility of Mamata become the PM which many of us would consider dreadful. Anyways, UP polls will decide the future of BJP. If Yogi voted out of power that would signal the end of Modi magic. But things must change now. With Ram mandir settled, Hindutva is largely over. There is a need to focus on policy.

@Velvet Thunder Exactly. Most states are not able to understand the importance of testing. Detecting and isolating patients prevents more people from getting infected. Perhaps the media infused CoVid competition is to blame. The number of cases is not the problem, it's the IFR and R that are the real variables to watch out for because most CoVid patients i.e. as high as 90% do not even need hospitalization. A very small percentage develop serious complications. Of course, % over lakhs is a huge absolute number but less testing only delays the inevitable. Also, the abnormally high number of oxygen-related cases in Delhi might have something to do with the pollution because Mumbai does not seem to have that problem nor Kerala which has a large number of diabetics. God help us all.
