Group thinking is a phenomenon wherein the group mindlessly favors one individual or some individual's ideas without thoroughly evaluating the pros and cons. Consensus > Quality. Other members choose to go with the idea because they don't want to rock the boat for fear of being alienated. Contrarian viewpoints are dissed and dismissed. It's not NEGATIVE if the idea is GOOD, but it's a DISASTER if the idea is BAD. Congress decision-makers simply lean on Rahul's ideas without fully considering their effect. Rahul being the DE FACTO LEADER makes it worse. Hence, in strategic management courses, the leader or CEO is advised to speak last so as to encourage others to speak freely and to avoid others from mindlessly latching on to the leader's pre-conceived notions had he spoken first.
