He doesn't know what he's talking about. We need market share and revenue, and profits to sustain and create growth. A brand is a consequence of profits. Without profits, the Brand itself dies.

This is more like the RANT of a GRUMPY UNCLE at the wedding. What's in a BRAND? The answer is PRODUCT. Look no further than GANDHI and RAHUL to understand the DIFFERENCE. Elementary economics: Cutting-edge innovation is a source of growth for developed nations. In contrast, a developing country like India will rely on capital deepening and imitation for its development. Creating a Prada, Rolls-Royce, or even Apple is infeasible. We neither have the product nor the market nor the patience for R&D necessary for such things. Innovation is not EASY. Several global brands have been struggling to survive. Some have even filed for bankruptcy (Including GM and Ford) or undergone corporate restructuring. In fact, the Chinese have been on a global "Brand" shopping spree. Even India's Tata and Bajaj picked JLR and KTM. Most leading western brands are outsourcing manufacturing and restricting themselves to only R&D. Also, FYI; the Chinese have yet to create a TRUE GLOBAL BRAND. They have only created cheap replicas of western products and captured several developing markets.
