Absolutes vs. Relatives must be considered before we assess growth. In 2007, India was a $1.22 trillion economy. An 8% over that number meant an additional $97.6 billion in wealth. Today India stands at $3.18 trillion; a 6% adds 191 billion dollars in wealth (almost double of 2007 level). In fact, India's per capita income has more than doubled from its 2007 level and stands at $7130 (PPP scale). Infra is the best way to boost growth for now and future.

@arjavgarg5801 PPP takes inflation into account. The per capita figures are inflation adjusted.

@arjavgarg5801 PPP is purchasing power parity. It accounts for the differing rate of inflation or cost of living between the US and the other country. It's not a perfect measure but it's widely used.

@arjavgarg5801 If you meant across time than inflated dollar anyways does not matter to the country. In fact, as measurement it will depress the GDP measure because dollar has strengthened against rupee during the period. The main question is are people better off in 2023 than say in 2007? The answer is Yes. We have less poor than what we had in 2007. Life for the middle class has not improved drastically but the middle class itself has expanded.b

Exactly. It has been a consistent pattern with this program even when Ila Patnaik was doing it. Very bold conclusions are being drawn from relatively small number of variables. I understand that economic assessment can be very subjective, but things like time period or just a few variables are big red flags esp when you have other expert assessments with a far more compelling arguments designed around richer and refined data. The good thing about this program is its neutrality. The commentary is largely unbiased and appears to be agenda free.

@pamtam1 No. With an increase in size, growth slows. It's nothing new. We missed the 4 trillion target on account of Covid.

@pamtam1 And I would respectfully disagree with your overall assessment. Throughout the 2014-2024 period, India remained the world's fastest growing large economy despite clocking below 7%. The global economy itself was going through a gloom during this period. The US did well on account of tax cuts and potectionism, but many countries including India saw their exports stagnate/contract. Without exports it is hard to sustain high level of growth

@pamtam1 Now you are getting desperate. We are not the only people "judging" this data. This along with many other factors will be assessed by everyone who has a stake in the matter and the verdict will be out in 2024.

We could have agreed to disagree and could have proceeded to mind our own business. My verdict on the matter is clear from my first statement. I still stand by it. You have added nothing that would cause me to rethink or reconsider.

@pamtam1 I never disputed FACTS Pre-CoVID decline was a reality as a percentage but not in absolute measures. In any case, many things were built into it - global gloom, the UPA era, the NPA mess, demonetization, etc. The CoVID impact was on account of the lockdown. Nothing unreasonable there. All facts and CONTEXTS. Could India have done better during the period? Sure. 8 is definitely better than 7. But if 7 is the highest in the class, then the question paper was also challenging. India being the fastest growing large economy tells you about the environment then. Still, not getting an 8 or 10 is a welcome CRITICISM. I do NOT mind that. Now, as to "Quotes". As I've established before, we can AGREE to DISAGREE. You made your point long ago, and I did it much before you. Check the definition of DESPERATION, and you'll know for yourself. I'm sure that's not such a difficult fact to process. However, kudos to you for keeping the discussion civil. A rarity in online discussions.
