At times, the climate change debate can become QUIXOTIC and INSENSITIVE to stakeholders. As humans, we don't look for "equilibrium" but rather "Nash equilibrium". People cannot be treated like commodities. Not everyone is made for "services". It will also create an OVERSUPPLY in the Services market and hurt wages.

Even if everyone was good with computers or other soft skills needed for services, the sector isn't big enough to accommodate everyone. Nevertheless, I don't think he suggested a lock, stock, and barrel abandonment of manufacturing. However, he needs to understand that there are many other countries that already going the China way. Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and even Pakistan are following or trying for a similar template. In fact, India has barely taken any steps to become a manufacturing behemoth.

@PK-tt5kk Dude, 1/3rd of Rajasthan is nearly 1.5 lakh sq km or 1.5*10^11 sq m. Even at an impossibly ridiculous rate of $10 per sq m, we would require nearly $20 billion just for land acquisition. We might not even get such a huge patch of land but even if we do, expect our politicians to multiply the project cost by any multiples of 10. I am not sure about the accuracy of my figures but I am just trying to explain the gist of the problem. Since you have done the research, I will NOT dispute any of your inferences. Personally, I am very bullish on the future of renewables esp Solar and Green Hydrogen. However, if you expect Govt to drive such projects then you are betting on the wrong horse. One of my neighbors has installed solar panels. It cost him about Rs 10 lakhs. Although I've never asked I think it is powering at least 20% of their electricity needs. Perhaps with a larger budget, it can be scaled up. If more and more people do it, we'll have Sun becoming a major partner in our energy infrastructure. But these things will take time and commercial success is not a guarantee. Also, there are other issues like the availability of sunlight during the monsoon season. We are hoping for the prices to go down, but if demand picks up and supply goes down due to the limited availability of components, the equilibrium will shift to higher prices. Also, you have ignored the fact that Govt subsidies are largely responsible for the current surge in demand for solar panels.

@PK-tt5kk While you are at it also suggest setting up factories on Moon or mining minerals from asteroids. That too would be so non-polluting and would save billions. The benefits and cost-effectiveness of all such things are secondary considerations. Where is the CAPEX going to come from? Also, 1/3rd of Rajasthan would need land acquisition. The last time such a bill was tabled both BJP and INC colluded to bulldoze the "suit-boot" reform. I do not mean to ridicule you but please take a pragmatic view of things not an idealistic one.

Two bank robbers when interrogated in separate rooms are likely to turn on each other if given the option of "no jail time" at the cost of testifying against their friend.
