Firstly, all sectors in India need an EXTRA budget but we don't have it. Secondly, Govt getting into R&D will get you there in 30 years (like Tejas). Partnering with the private sector can deliver the same goods at lower cost and greater efficiency.

What's in it for France? That's also a question worth pondering. Remember siding with India will come at the cost of alienating China. Also, there is no guarantee that the US would be on our side.

@kaustubhshukla6462 Northrop Grumman, Raytheon Technologies, Lockheed Martin, BWX Technologies are all private players involved in nuclear weapons production. India has kept the sector restricted. Govt need not totally give up control but it can partner with private players.

@orkkojit Not entirely true. Paras defense is an Indian defence company of repute and boasts global clientele. Tatas and Hinduja are also involved in defence. We don't realise it but our private sector is prett advanced in certain niche areas. Our coding skills are the world's envy. Many Indian companies are involved in writing the software for Russian and American weaponry.

As Dr. AQ Khan (the same Notorious Pakistani scientist) puts it, "10 detonations are enough to bring India and Pakistan to a standstill". 10 or more within the same region would be catastrophic to the entire world. Only a fool (on a suicide mission) would start a NUCLEAR WAR in the subcontinent. Pakistani Army might be a lot of things but lose a state that they own? Instead of Nukes, Pak and China should be checked BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS and India should build 5th Generation warfare.
