True, but this is an old design. Newer engines seem to keep getting better, some old timers may disagree. A new car now probably will get junked before the head gasket goes.

@justhecuke Everything else breaks later, but still before the engine. Alternators, mufflers, shocks used to go out every 50k miles. Now they last 300k miles.

A new engine is probably $10k or more. In addition gas prices are going way up and V8 Pickup/SUV prices will be going way down. I’d try to sell it while used car prices are high and before the head gasket gets even worse. Some sealant additives might buy time to sell it.

@drwisdom1 If you have a good income the gas prices are no problem.

It should be between the lower and upper marks when completely cold. Try to keep the fluid level between the lines when completely cold. You shouldn’t have to add much coolant, maybe half a cup every 50k miles. It sounds like you might need an ounce or two of fluid. If you fill it to the full line on a frigid winter day with engine off for a day it might be slightly overfilled. You will smell coolant on warm days, not really a big deal. The excess coolant will vent out as a vapor. If it’s way overfilled some liquid coolant will blow out as well.

@jessebuenrostro2080 Most if not all Toyota/Lexus products are 29 ft-lbs. You will need to use a new crush washer every time.

Temporarily, then sell it. Sealer will cause clogging issues long term and will not hold very long. This is what used car dealers do.
