@rodneybever9583 You're still safer with a mask (for your own sake) than without one. Add a shield that covers at least the eyes as well, and you're even better protected. Even a pair of (big) glasses can help. Sure, it doesn't eliminate the risk entirely, BUT it ABSOLUTELY helps more than nothing.
We know this for a fact. That's why all kinds of coverings, including plexiglasses in stores etc. (the same way subway for instance uses sneeze quards over their sub ingrediens). Literally anything that covers you from breathing in all the particles that otherwise roams around in the air, or if anyone were to sneeze/cough close to you/in your direction helps. Does it provide 100% protection? No, you need a hazmat suit for that. COMPLETE medical grade covering. Still, just because it's not 100% effective (although it ABSOLUTELY works WONDERS like you sort of imply, if EVERYONE, or at least the very mast majority wears masks as well), doesn't mean it's not efficient. Same exact principle as wearing a seatbelt. Sure, it won't ever protect you 100%, the protection provided DEPENDS on circumstantial factors, but just because something is not a complete guarantee for total success, doesn't mean it's not incredibly valueable and don't work - because it does.
It all boils down to listening to the science and executing it, as a way to increase your chances at preventing as much injury/harm/sickness/death as possible.
