Your God must be mighty weak if he's concerned over Earthly possessions, Jeff...

@lisalangston511 , our government isn't based on scripture.

He probably would have. Jesus was way into love and forgiveness without using malice to intimidate opposition. There's a really good book on Jesus and his values called the Bible. You should give it a read sometime instead of toting guns, hating your neighbors and/or worshipping false idols.

@jeffreypardy2831 that's true. A lot of weirdos worship all sorts of weird stuff - we usually call them cults, though. If it works for you, I say go for it!

They do believe in them and you have the right to freely practice your religion. You don't, however, have the right to avoid paying taxes because you want a political organization to be considered an extension of the church.

@jamiemezs9891 I'm not a socialist but I think churches, particularly mega churches, are predatory and should either pay taxes or shut their doors permanently.

@lisalangston511 unless you're older than 250, you don't have access to anything different than people moving to the New World to escape religious persecution. Secular laws can still be humane and religion does not have the market cornered on reality (in fact, the behavior of churches over the last 150 years says they've been immoral more often than not).

Red states are really poorly run, it's incompetence from the top down. Try to be patient and feed your family with the voter suppression laws that became the priority over good governance.

Considering our Republic was founded on a separation of church and state, if any religious organization wants to back, host or advocate for a political party, they should lose tax exempt status. We're a secular nation and not a Christian nation. Our founders would be appalled at anyone trying to change that.

@neenernener no one is into killing babies. Do you not understand what a medical abortion is? There's gotta be a "...For Dummies" book out there that introduces modern medicine to those who've been indoctrinated into thinking Christ would support their persecution of others just because they wear a gold crucifix on a necklace.

How is a political nonprofit made up of religious wingnuts paying taxes in any way similar to the rise of fascism in Europe??
1
@missymoonwillow6545 you must not know anything about the Freemasons.
1
It's not in the IRS charter to help Christian wingnuts avoid paying taxes.

The IRS isn't persecuting anyone. No one wants to pay taxes but only churches have that exemption. If you want to have a political, nonprofit, Christian organization, you'll have to pay taxes in America.
1
No, it isn't.
