@kinggrizzly13 In Canada, one is allowed "reasonable force" to repel a threat.
This means if someone comes into your home with a firearm, shoots at you, misses, and you shoot back and kill the intruder, this would be considered reasonable force under current law.
However.
Let's say an intruder breaks into your home brandishing a baseball bat and hits you with it. Reasonable force(this is where it gets deliberately vague and rather moronic) one would be expected to meet that force(the bat) with a defence that was similar(or reasonable) within that legal frame.
Although a bat CAN kill, the amount of force required is disimilar to a firearm in so far that the discharging of a firearm can cause instant incapacitation to most in most circumstances.
So, if they come at you with a bat, one would be expected to utilize a similar mode of defence in kind.
As I stated, the self defence laws are rather muddy and muddled and rather unreasonable in Canada.
For example, if one is a practicing martial artist, one is expected to show a DUTY OF CARE towards any attacker.
You heard that correctly. If I utilize a throw against someone and they hit their head(on a car bumper or bollard) I COULD be held responsible for any severe injury suffered by my attacker.
