  1. China realized they are dealing with a petulant child in Donald Trump, very dangerous but a child nonetheless. They won't ever let itself be dragged to a war with the US. Why would they when they are at the very cusp of being the undisputed economic and technological leader in the world. So China will just bide its time and keep mollifying Trump until the next president comes along...or the next, next US president if they have to. They are patient and are very good in playing the long game.
