I don't think they'll reunite in the near future. Perhaps taiwan and China could first agree that Taiwan could join China in a "One-nation, two-system" arrangement first, sort of like Hongkong. Then after a pre-agreed interim period of maybe 25-50 years for adjustment, then Taiwan could join after a vote to end the interim period.

@hugok3340 GDP is very erroneous in showing how a nation is doing in prosperity because it doesn't take into account inflation, cost of living, etc. PPP GDP is a better gauge than using nominal GDP when assessing a nation's domestic market because PPP takes into account the relative cost of local goods, services and inflation rates of the country. GDP just measures everything except that which makes life worthwhile according to Senator Robert Kennedy. GDP does not measure health, education, equality of opportunity, the state of the environment or many other indicators of the quality of life. It does not even measure crucial aspects of the economy such as its sustainability... whether or not it is headed for a crash.
