I think I would still pick the AK in WWI. The AK is far easier to fix if something goes wrong. Most fixes can be done with a hammer. Sure, the AK might shot off to the left after the fix, but it will fire. ARs are kind of all or nothing. They either work, or they are done for until they get back to the armory. All that being said, the AR is not a bad option at all. It would not be nearly as popular as it is if it did not have a lot of advantages.
