Nice early morning gift of this episode here in the US.

I've never understood the concept of these massive "recoilless rifle" guns on an aircraft. Assuming these weapons were ever really useful and effective, why not mount them on e-boats or German torpedo boats? It would be much easier to modify a naval vessel than try to hang these on modified existing aircraft.

@westcoaststacker569 No, not quite. The Mosquito Mk XVIII had a 6 pounder (57 mm) gun installed in part of the bomb bay. It wasn't recoilless, just a standard cannon with a few extra extra recoil bits to reduce fuselage stress. It was obviously not like the 14" monstrosity the Germans wanted to use. While that one really wasn't practical to use on an airplane, it may have worked on small naval craft

There's an excellent summary of US logistics in the Pacific during WWII available online called "Beans, Bullets, and Black Oil". You can find it at https://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-room/title-list-alphabetically/b/beans-bullets-black-oil.html. It's really an amazing read if you're at all interested in logistics. Considering they were handling the equivalent 5 million of today's SKU's running on a completely manual system is really quite amazing.
