After a half-century of stagnant and declining pay due to voodoo trickle-down Reaganomics (which we were told would raise all boats) working Americans are long overdue for a very substantive raise. It is an issue of societal values. I was taught the traditional, moral view of the value of work-- any work-- and what a society should provide for its citizens. Which is that all work-- yes, even "flipping burgers"-- is of such inherent dignity and value that it should net a decent standard of living, and all citizens should share in an ever-increasing standard of living as the society grows. President Eisenhower felt the same way, as did most Americans until Reagan. That is a society that is civilized and concerned with the common good and the general welfare. Republicans hate that. (And give such a lie to voodoo trickle-down Reaganomics that promised the water would raise all the boats.) And there is no need to raise prices on the product to provide the people who actually do the work with a decent standard of living. What it means is that the top executives can only buy 4 new yachts this year, rather than 5 new yachts.
