  1. This is no problem on a degoogled phone since google and other third party apps can't see your imei, only the carrier knows that same phone belongs to you but can't see everything else you have except the websites you visit if you use their mobile data.

  2. Yes, you can give an alternate phone number not known to your contacts. But most will just submit their personal phone number, as they don't want to spend more money on another number. That's the catch. Lastly, everyone I know uses a google app notification for 2FA; I don't know anyone who uses totp, but I and thousands of privacy aware people definitely do. When they see advice like "use 2fa for betta privaseeh", they just follow through without analysing this very process.

  3. Signal has access to your contact list. If you deny access to it, that doesn't stop an authoritarian party to identify you on Signal. They add a great many of contact lists to their phone, then they match it belongs to you. Just like Telegram and Whatscrapp. So it does not matter if it is "in app only", it still announces your Signal presence to anyone who has your contact info on their phone.

  5. It is still possible to join these soycial media disservices even if you deny them access to your contact list. Even then, I doubt it would alliviate the problem because I simply don't trust privacy toggles to actually work.

  6.  @linsqopiring6816  Yes, it kinda becomes less of a choice every passing day. People in my country are now so used to paying with a digital wallet, an app exclusive to smartphones. When I tell them that I can't pay that way cuz I don't have the app, they look at me like a strange guy. I resist this social pressure anyway. I insist to pay in cash or sometimes with a debit card.

  7. What I like about simplex chat is that it does not require any personal info and it has no identifier , the identifier you give to anyone to reach you is ephemeral.
