Some great thoughts and input; first time viewer, subscribed, notifications, liked - Congratulations on 1 Mil!! Incredible!! About your topic - I think you missed a key factor. While I agree that a major motivator is 'profit' I think you need to look at that alone, in more detail. I worked for a huge Caterpillar DEALER. We had branches all over the Province (= State). But each branch was treated like a separate business and each branch was THREE businesses: Equipment sales (was happy with a 1% net profit each year!) Parts Sales was a separate entity that made the vast percentage of profit for the dealership - and Caterpillar (or any manufacturer like TESLA) And the third profit centre is the Service Department. And they all compete against one another internally and between branches. So - an equipment salesperson may think they have a sale upcoming -to replace their old customer'sold unit - only to be beaten - not by a competitive BRAND - but by their own Service Salesperson - selling the rebuild process and the Parts to the customer and rebuilding their old chassis. So 'Planned Obsolescence' has been around forever. In fact - to placate Insurance Companies and concerned owners (some rebuilds can run hundreds of thousands of dollars) Caterpillar autthorized certain models and certain years of production - to be given a fresh serial number - and it became a 'new rebuilt machine'. And some models were made in multiple factories around the world but only those from certain facilities could qualify for the Certified Rebuild Program. It was a win-win-win. The customer kept their old machine - but made it 'new', the Dealership got to do the work and keep the customer and sell the parts - and the Manufacturer kept their competition from earning a new sale - so they all sang Kum-ba-ya with the original salesperson who started it. The same process has to unfold in the EV market. Certainly not every model from every manufacturer - but we'll see where it goes. Follow the PARTS money.
