We have a woodstove, gas BBQ, camping gear and can cook outdoors if necessary. Camping shower setup as well etc etc. Must suck to live in the city/burbs and be totally reliant on the grid.

So how long do you think it will take them to can bottle gas connections?

@rattusfinkus That's not the point I was making dude. Having everything reliant on a grid that already struggles at times is ridiculous imo. No issues for us as we don't have gas and have multiple options for cooking, heating water and temperature control. Not quite so rosy for those who live in their little boxes in the city/burbs though eh. Cheaper may not be the case when our clean/green renewables mean our power bills keep going up 30% at a time eh?

@joeybrown3583 Really? House burns down, illegal gas installation. Ring insurance, they check, laugh and hang up. It's basically illegal to do even the most basic of home repairs these days if you check the regulations. I'm not saying I agree but that's the way it is. Do you own a property?

Never had it and wouldn't want it in my house for various reasons. That said I think that the "all eggs in one basket" deal that they're pushing is rather silly really.

@rattusfinkus So let's get rid of those nasty gas appliances but let's also use coal/gas to power our nice "clean" ones eh? Dude it's a great big con and anyone who thinks that changing our whole system over will be cheaper or much cleaner really is off with the fairies. I'm actually fairly aware of environmental impacts and have been living a lower impact lifestyle than most but I see all of this as just another topic that people can crust on to, do lots of virtue signalling and the big boys can ream us all.......again.

@rattusfinkus What is happening with the price of electricity atm? Can you name anything that the Govt. has done in this area that has actually reduced prices no matter how hard they promised? Anything at all? You're also not factoring in that all of this cheap, clean green solar has to be backed up somehow and also all of the infrastructure for transmission etc has to be paid for. Feed in tariffs are already pitiful in a lot of places and you watch what happens as ever more renewables comes on line. You won't be able to give solar away during the day and will pay a fortune for power the rest of the time. Why don't you look at where all of the money is going in this regard? Pretty funny also that the Govt. crows about a surplus when it's off the back of selling fossil fuels overseas whilst telling us we can't use them eh?

@rattusfinkus Yeah I know your situation Lucille. You can use whatever studies you like and then blurt out a word salad to try and justify it all but it won't change in the slightest what I said will happen. Can you name one thing, as I said, that has ended up being cheaper? Anything. I get it dude, it's like a cult/religion with you guys just the same as so many other things that humans do are. Getting "cheaper" every year eh? How about the mob whose share price got smashed recently because they admitted that they underestimated the cost of setting up a wind farm and overestimating how long it would last? Won't be long now and people will start to push back against it all imo. Next elections should be very interesting indeed if they keep pushing all of this crap.

@ntal5859 Sucks to be you by the sounds of it.
1
Yeah and this time of year you don't need a stove. Just chuck your chook into the driveway and wait.
1
It will likely only be on new builds imo. We had to have a HWS replaced in our 100 yo+ house and could replace like with like whereas new places couldn't.
1
Yep and then if the regs say that no new houses can have a gas connection of any type and you go ahead and do it anyway your home insurance will likely be void if you have issues.
1
They're going to struggle to turn off my wood stove that could be over 60 yo now.
