What a load of victim crap. This is about older folks being able to downsize and invest any leftover money without penalty.

@justdoesntaddup8620 So it isn't a thing in regards to this story and will also be "grandfathered" for existing homeowners most likely. Also don't discount how p%d off people will be if it comes in and so any Govt. will have to think very hard about it. Also, according to a quick Google, the profit from home sale into Super is an after-tax contribution so no tax payable on the way in. Other than Super falling over I'm struggling to see and issue with this initiative really but people will obviously have to check it out for themselves.

@d00mg1rl Worthless? How so? Our Super is spread across various asset classes and cash. All investments will have cycles and this is no different imo. No one is forcing anyone to do anything and this is a way to older folks to maybe sell homes that are too big for them and to get into something more suitable as they age and their needs change. You can get all scared about the whole "you will own nothing and be happy" crap but I won't be.

Yeah Super is about later in life and it's about older people downsizing so what age were you expecting it to be for?
1
@nomyafiftyonefifty8081 It doesn't say anything about whether the home has a mortgage on it or not. I don't know for sure but that makes no sense in terms of this idea tbh. Also a quick Google says that contributions from this won't be taxed on the way in. People will need to look at the whole picture and likely get advice but unless Super falls over I can't really see an issue with it tbh. The reality for a lot of people is that downsizing often isn't cheaper.

@nomyafiftyonefifty8081 I don't think that's the case tbh. A homeowner, imo, is generally considered to be the one with their name on the title and being mortgaged has nothing to do with it. Whether that's correct or not I don't know but it shouldn't be that hard to find out. Yep more people are coming into "retirement" with debt which would be a bloody nightmare imo. I know folks who owe more now on their homes than they did when they started and will likely have to work forever. Idiots. I think that the 10 year thing is to stop house flippers from putting profits into a tax free investment and benefitting further.

@nomyafiftyonefifty8081 If you're in your 50's & 60's and haven't managed to get some equity in your home after the last few years then you've done something very very wrong imo. House prices have boomed in most places. If the bank sells it and there's money left over then you get that amount. If you let it get to that point then it's on the homeowner anyway............. Owning a home in Australia is pretty much of a cornerstone of wealth building for tax purposes and in the eyes of the Govt. via social security etc. Yep it can go wrong but for most it doesn't if they're smart.

Name on the title for ten years, owned, is my guess. Why would having a mortgage make any difference?
1
I'm guessing that you don't have any cos "it's a rip off" like a few others I've seen over the years. The one thing in common I noticed was none of them had any financial common sense whatsoever.
1
@jimmycook872 So you have lots of Super then and you're looking forward to losing it? 🤣🤣🤣
1
@jimmycook872 So that's the best you've got? Independently wealthy and got all the bases covered and just on here day after day posting the same crap cos you're bored? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
1
@jimmycook872 So what's your situation Jimmy seeing as you're so convinced that all of this is rubbish? Maybe you live in the middle of nowhere, on benefits and knit your own slippers? Please tell us that you've done better than the rest of us through your insights and endeavours?
1
@jimmycook872 Pretty good really. Retired before 60, self funded, assets, resources and whatever else. How about you?
1
@jimmycook872 C'mon Jimmy time to tell us all what a winner you are given all of your bs posts on here. No telling fibs now............
1
@jimmycook872 Retired? Sure you did. If it was that easy for you why are you on here whining every day?
1
@jimmycook872 Hot day so playing with you tossers is just fun. There's nothing about you for me to be jealous of or envy in any way. Your miserable little mind is just sad really. Do you ever do anything else cos it seems weird that if you're so well off that you aren't out enjoying life and not just whining on here. Keep trying.
1
Have you looked at the numbers? PPOR profits on sale aren't taxed and a lot of folks won't have enough Super to not get the pension as well.
1
@Wide_Awake708 Plenty of people aren't and never were net taxpayers though eh FREEDUMB? Look at the figures.
1
@Wide_Awake708 The fact that you may think a particular way about me just shows that I'm on the right path as you never are imo. Why are you still calling others out for having multiple accounts when you've admitted that you do? Why do you have multiple accounts? What's the point? Do you think that posting the same things from multiple accounts makes you righter? You lot are cooked.

So that you can go and rent somewhere else?
