I watched a place going up near us recently and all of the timber walls, roof structure etc sat out in the weather for ages as it was too wet to work on it. No way I would buy one of these crappy new places if I could possibly avoid it. Our place is over 100 years old and will likely be here for another 100 at least if looked after.

What options would you prefer? Our home gives us shelter, rainwater, security, produces food, warmth and other things as well. Yep they're expensive but the options are also expensive or very compromised imo.

Normal economic cycles. This stuff was all happening before the internet came along so that you guys could all find something/someone to blame and piss your pants about.

No doubt assets will be in wife's name or tied up somehow. Family member is a small scale developer and is on the hook for years after place is sold and can get bankrupted very easily if things go wrong. It's a tough game.

Lol Happening all over the world and worse in places than here.

How is a company going broke a crime exactly? Family member does small scale development and they're on the hook for a lot of years if anything goes wrong and the increasing rules/regulations/fees and whatever else are eye watering.

@HelloWorld-ns7gt Not defending anything or this happening and there are doubtless many shonky operators out there as well. Fact is that it's a huge financial undertaking when you think about purchasing a property/land and then having to stump up for a lot of the costs before seeing any sort of returns. Basically takes them 12 months to make a profit and a lot can happen in 12 months as we're now seeing. Keep up your victim mentality though as my family member builds high quality places, has a great rapport and relationship with his customers and takes his responsibilities seriously. He always has his places sold well before building starts and people waiting for the next one they build. Even getting stuff during the pandemic was a bit of a nightmare when you're contracted to a time and price. Ever had to do anything like that in your life or were you a lowly wage slave or welfare recipient who has no clue?

@marymartin1106 Nope they're doing ok but every project is a risk. A property where they are can cost many hundreds of thousands before they start and the same again for building costs and then no returns for possibly 12 months. They're very good at what they do and have done it successfully for many years now in spite of what's been going on. Other than bashing on your keyboard with righteous indignation and an ill informed opinion what have you done in life that would involve those costs and responsibility? Nothing? Yeah thought so.

@darrylmackie9184 So what options do you think are better or are you just referring to the fact that they're now basically unaffordable for those living in the cities and starting out?
