@eb2505 Seems you place a lot of faith in think tanks and talk whereas I don't. More noise and money spent with no real benefits every time from what I see. Unless we do away with the digital ways then it's virtually impossible. Data has to be gathered/stored and then somehow verified by those using it or needing it etc etc. People love to throw out simplistic offerings and pretending it's an option when all it really is is a way of trying to argue their mindset. Look at how many said "isolate those at risk" during recent events when, if you think about it, was totally unworkable in any way given the different cases involved.

@eb2505 You're not dealing with the "abstract" though are you? You start off with a fear/dislike of Govt. and then just make random statements that make you feel better about it all. Securing information necessitates being able to gather and verify information and then being able to store it and present it when needed. That would then require a central entity, that the users of this information trust, to verify and authorize it's use doesn't it? There's no easy answer and I suspect that it's only going to get worse imo.

@eb2505 These are private companies getting hit are they not? I saw a vid. a while back by an IT guy in the US that said a lot of companies he has seen run software that isn't even supported anymore to save money. You may as well face the fact that unless you don't want to take part in society your data is going to be out there and the only way to safeguard it is via the ones who use it have better controls on it than those who are trying to steal it. Personally I think that if I'm dying on the side of the road or lost somewhere and in trouble I would like authorities to have the information to maybe help me. Swings and roundabouts really.

@eb2505 You can opt out any time that you like but you won't be a member of society in real terms will you? Your simplistic little comments on what is a very complex situation is rather amusing. I'm very aware of the risks of anyone having all of our data but it is just a part of life these days. It sounds to me like you want to the doctor and have a complete medical workup every time and then delete all of the info afterwards. That should work eh?

@CovidConQuitTheCensorship I live in a top tourist town in a very nice property so what basement are you talking about? I don't know what happened to them, people come and go from forums all the time. I can remember Kenneth but I can't remember Nathan so............ How many different names have you posted under.
