  3. We need our French mates who are still our Ally. This will blow over, they need us too. After all we are still spending many billions with them for military hardware.

Firstly the French gov't was officially notified two days prior to the announcement as disclosed by the French Ambassador at his press conference. So you should withdraw that lie. Secondly many months prior ScoMo made it clear to Macron himself that our circumstances had changed and we wanted nuclear submarines. Macron refused to supply them. Third, the Short Fin project was a disaster from start to finish. The delivery date kept blowing out until it got to 2040. The budget started at $35B, it was $50B by the time the contract was signed. That kept blowing out until it reached $90B. The contract had target dates and "break" clauses. Naval Group did not meet any of the target dates and was so far behind none were ever going to be met despite pushing them back. So we had no choice but to take the next "break" clause inline with the contract. Now has Australia trumpeted all those undeniable facts to the press or have we been diplomatic in our approach and let the French blow loud indignation at losing the contract ? We are looking after our upset French mates but tolerance only lasts so long before we draw the line and point out to the world that the French did not abide by the contract, we did. That would not be good PR for Naval Group.

  5.  @elisebourgoin5041  : Yes. Macron was clearly warned, he knew we wanted SSN's. Under the circumstances we had to follow the UK and US wishes. And, we complied with all the contract obligations. What more could you ask? Perhaps you think we should have invited the French to sit in on the negotiations with the US and UK? Don't be silly. Biden obviously lied on camera. That will be embarrassing for them but they are getting used to that.
