@Peter... : Do they have any working Molten Salt reactors ? Or are they all still research project that are decades away ?

@peterolsen9131 : So the multi-national project that puts the technology at "early research" stage is wrong and their forward projections of three decades is wrong. OK. The fact remains that there are no working reactors and none being constructed. All current projects are research projects. That said, I do like the technology and I hope the problems are resolved sooner rather than later.

@peterolsen9131 : BTW, do molten salt reactors need uranium fuel ?
1
@peterolsen9131 : Both China's 'secret' projects are to quote the CCP: "experimental prototype designed to have an output of just 2 megawatts." and "The first commercial plants using the new technology are reportedly planned to come online in 2030." We know what the CCP's projections are like. I wouldn't hold your breath.

@peterolsen9131 : BTW, the CCP project are based on the US technology but they did not include that information in their press release.

@peterolsen9131 : Meanwhile we need safe, clean, green "nuclear reactors", preferably in the Small Module Reactor (SMR) form combined with a "scalable" storage like 'Pumped Hydro' or similar and not 'Lithium' which does not scale and is too toxic.

@peterolsen9131 : Mate that video is a decade old. What has happened to Thorium research in that decade ?
1
@peterolsen9131 : Mate it is taught in Aussie universities :-) Did you know we have a leading thorium research project right here in Australia? Do you know why it is still being researched and not actually working? The actual problems that Kirk brushed over and ignored? Do you even want to know? Or will you ignore them too?

@peterolsen9131 : There are many Aussie students specialising in Thorium Molten Salt reactors, it is after all the flavour of the month/year/decade. It's very popular, therefore difficult to qualify to do it. Besides there is a research reactor which is allowed in Australia, for them to continue working in the field. It is I believe in Western Australia so you can use a search engine to find out more. BTW, you jumped the fact that they require the evil "Uranium" to operate. It is used to start and maintain the reactor. It's funny that Kirk and many of these characters brush over that fact. Have you ever wondered why small tech investors, invest in tech like Hydrogen but we don't invest in things like Thorium ? There is a key difference.

@peterolsen9131 : Here is where the CCP got their technology. I've no doubt Oak Ridge cover the use of "Uranium U235" to maintain the reactor, the same technique used in all Thorium reactors. "The Molten-Salt Reactor Experiment", This film was produced in 1969 by Oak Ridge National Laboratory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyDbq5HRs0o cheers, hth, build

@peterolsen9131 : Another enthusiastic but skeptical Thorium bloke threw this in. I haven't seen it but he recommended it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x7do-_MTD0 I'll watch it tomorrow and see if you have any comment on it.
