  1. I think it's more because Macron fears that unless French comes with a selling point the language of the EU will drift toward German over time. I don't think this will save him though because my guess is European French and German will start mixing as Europe integrates further while the French spoken in Africa will also change into a Creole language. African French and France French won't remain the same language.

  3.  @Jostein1945  Estonia used to be part of Sweden. As a Swede so would rather have a union with Finland Estonia and Latvia than with Denmark Norway and Iceland.
