  1. It was just reported that Tesla posted a job listing for an expert to set up a camera-based inspections system at Fremont. So obviously a computer automated one. Knowing how Tesla works, I bet it will incorporate learning algorithms derived from their self-driving hardware and software.

  2. But you have something to look forward to. Your Berlin Gigafactory will have a freshly designed and engineered production line. Plus, of course, the expertise of the German automotive workforce that figured into Elon choosing Germany.

And yet from things I've read American automakers some decades ago put that high on the importance list, and put effort into the external fit and how the door clunked just right, instead of effort into better engineering. It was too much about how the buyer reacted on the showroom floor. But most manufacturers do better now, and Tesla certainly should, when their cars excel in so many other ways.

  4. He still had the Model 3, or pieces of it, that he compared to the Model Y when doing that tear down. I hope he still has them, am betting he does.

  5. Nope. Sandy had high hopes it would come out soon after doing the Model Y teardown. Very much liked some innovations about the Y wiring, but wants the new revolution. IMHO that might have to wait for Texas and Berlin. However, the Model S and X production lines shut down for 3 weeks for retooling, so maybe that major step is part of the refresh.
