In Flagstaff some people pin large bubble wrap in one front door, put it across the windshield, and pin it in the other front door. I generally rely on Rain-X and a squeegee.

Lifetime transmission fluids are a real thing. I guarantee if you don't change the fluid it will last as long as your transmission does. The same is true of engine oil; just top it up as needed and I guarantee the oil will still be there when the engine is at end of life... usually many months, possibly more than an entire year!

Sometimes it worked. Many of the radiator leaks I have seen were the solder seals on the tanks. They grew no matter what we did.

We had a 1964 Dodge Coronet in California - rarely got below freezing. In the morning it was fond of staying in first gear for a few blocks.

Does the warm-up in cold weather apply to Toyota hybrid transmissions or to manual transmissions?

Well, kinda. The oil lubricates just fine without oil pressure because the critical factor is film strength, but not for long. The oil pressure exists to maintain the film of oil. The older Toyota hybrids are good examples; they start and stop sometimes a hundred or more times in a busy day. The motors spin it up, restoring oil pressure and flow, a short time before the fuel is injected again. Our 2002 Prius had the dirty intake problem that (in cold weather, usually the first cold snap of the year) made it sound like it started and idled for a few seconds and then shut down. Without fuel the engine is just an air pump.

Just my experience: if an assembly (like a pump) starts leaking it is essentially at end of life. If you stop the leak the assembly is still on its way out. That leads to the real question: to fix the vehicle or to replace it. I think of it as the question of "crumbling" - things that have end-of-life problems in a part that should last about the life of the vehicle - means the vehicle will not work right for any length of time again without replacing a lot of the parts as each fails. How much do I want to spend on the vehicle before junking it?

Historically, "myths" have been popular stories that may or may not be true. After all, a lot of what we know to be true or false now may be found to be the other sometime in the future. There is a surprising number of myths people still believe to be false, notably the existence of narwhals. In the early 1800s if you believed in gorillas you were a fool; in the late 1800s if you believed gorillas didn't exist you were a fool.
