I worked on computer controlled equipment in aviation and in an electric utility for about 20 years before I dealt with OBD2. I think this is a very good start, particularly in explaining why things that do not seem to be emission related (like coolant temperature) do affect emissions.

I found a solution: "stoichiometric" is actually pronounced "just right." Problem solved!

Some details would be great; I bet AMD can work in your sort of problem as an example when the subject comes up.

@TheCarCareNut I took ChrisFix's advice and spent $100 for a BlueDriver. It is the only decent priced module that will look at the various modules in our first gen Prius. The BlueDriver module plugs onto the OBD2 port and communicates with Androids and Apples via bluetooth.

Okay if I jump in? Work on the check engine light. Most (all?) modern Toyota vehicles will set the VSC and ABS lights if the MIL - check engine light - is lit. I don't know about AWD. Presumably VSC and ABS want to know the engine is behaving properly before they do their thing. My crystal ball tells me you might have a small evap system leak, but it often lies to me. If it actually is something like P0456 (Evaporative Emissions System Small Leak Detected) lots of people try replacing the gas cap as a cheap thing that might help, can't hurt. If it still happens, watch for the upcoming videos! (Watch for them anyway.)

To expand on TCCN's answer, at 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio there is exactly enough oxygen to burn all the hydrocarbons in typical gasoline. Mazda is making engines (and apparently working on more) that use extremely lean mixtures with radical engine design. Carburetors made me cry. So did the pre-OBD electronic systems like our old Volvo's. I love OBD2!
