  1. I would be one of those people heading for the border except for one factor: Prop 13. Property taxes in California are based on how much you paid for your house, not how much it's worth. I bought many years ago after the bubble and now pay only a hundred dollars a month in property taxes. If I sold here and bought a mansion in another state with the proceeds, I would be paying a grand a month in property taxes alone.
