Mr Taiwanese why does your National Palace Museum in Taipei have 700,000 pieces of Chinese artifacts and artworks, the majority which were moved from the Palace Museum in the Forbidden City as well as five other institutions on the mainland?

@cooliipie I don’t think the aboriginals called themselves Taiwanese or the Island Taiwan. The aboriginals may have been in Taiwan first but there already many generations of Chinese born on the island. They have same right to be on the island as those with aboriginal ancestors.

@picnicgathering1446 Who cares if they call themselves Taiwanese. The people of Guangdong Province and Hong Kong speak Cantonese not Mandarin but they are still a part of China. There are 7 Tibetans, 14 million Manchus and 3 million Koreans in China. There are Mongolians in Inner Mongolia. They are all still a part of China.

Some of Taiwan’s territory such as Kinmen and Matsu Islands were never ceded to Japan in 1895 by the Treaty of Shimonoseki only Taiwan and Penghu. The 1952 San Francisco Treaty does not apply to Kinmen or Matsu Islands because they were never Japanese territory.

@wowyzaoy 1945 the world was not a nice place. The USA had slavery and they stole the land from the indians. But the USA is called the land of the free.

De facto independent but not a country. Not in the UN and no US embassy in Taipei. Wake me up when that happens.

@dhdarr But Taiwan is not recognized as country by governments around the world. May I suggest Taiwan declare independence. It is only words and wouldn’t cost anything.
1
@dhdarr You haven’t even had a referendum on election. Everyone thought Quebec was going to separate from Canada in 1995 but when it came to a vote the separatists lost. Everyone thought Hilary Clinton was going to be President in 2016 but she lost to Trump. A Taiwan referendum on independence would be closer than you think. You can’t assume everyone in Taiwan wants independence, there are still a lot of Nationalists on the island.

Where do you get this crap? I don’t see any Chinese in Hong Kong saying that they are not Chinese.
1
@wowyzaoy Obviously you are not Chinese.

Taiwan first inhabitants were the dinosaurs

USA also had slavery and the British colonialized a 1/4 of the world

All the Manchu people are living in the current PRC China. Also many Manchu intermarried with the Han Chinese.

I am Chinese

@dhdarr Taiwan has never held a referendum on independence or declared independence. Yes the young people want Taiwan independence but the Nationalists to this very day claim to be the legitimate government of mainland China and that Taiwan is a part of China. If Taiwan wants to recognized as a sovereign nation by governments around the world they would need to declare independence.

Blah blah. You were always under someone’s thumb. The Dutch, the Qing Dynasty, the Japanese and now the ROC for the last 75 years. Taiwan only became a democracy in the late 1980’s. Stop using 2024 standards for what happened 75 years ago. The USA had slavery and the British colonized a 1/4 of the world.
