I think Ms Merkel has desperately tried to keep negociation and international trade channels open at all costs. And by "all costs", I really mean all, including swallowing down things that are unacceptable. What she failed to realise (or ignored? the doubt is uncanny) is that weapons and armies still exist, as despicable a***ole Putin is constantly reminding us. Point is, both Russia and China have now a powerful blackmail range towards Europe and that is a disaster. The fact that she appears to be a very decent and respectable person does not change the fact that most of her international politics was a huge mistake. But it's the Germans in general that need a wake-up call as they appear to think that all the world is as disciplined and reliable as they are.
