@naaldvoerder The Vietnam war was over 50 years ago. The US hasn't been in a war for nearly two decades, the last war the US was involved in was in Iraq, and major operations only lasted for something like three years until the fall of Saddam Hussein. Unless you mean large military actions, which if I remember correctly was Isis, and that was in 2014. It is staggerin to imagine how gullible one has to be to actually believe Putin had no intentions of taking over Ukraine. The Russian dictator's original talking points had to do with "demilitarising" and the "denazification" of the country. In order to perform these two functions you need to control more than a fraction of said country. It was after Russia's failure to decapitate the government that the talking points changed to fighting for the "freedom" of the people of the Donbass region. The fact that they used a smaller force speaks more about their incompetence then their altruistic intentions. Putin believed that his three day special operation would be met with cheers and applause, and laughably planned accordingly. That 300,000 casualty figure so many of the Russian trolls throw around includes both sides, not just Ukrainians I'd like to point out, unless you have access to an actual source specifying otherwise. It is telling how horribly inept the Russian military must be at not being able to deal with a country that is already gone as you put it. And last I checked both Zelenskyy and Putin are the same height, so all of the perceived failings associated with the word "midget" are also applicable to the Russian leader. Now I cannot speak for every American taxpayer, but I'm perfectly happy with my money going to aid the people of Ukraine rather than seeing it given as a tax break to Elon musk.
