  3. The Americans didn't ask Ukraine to stop attacking the refineries. That was a single source story from "unnamed sources in the US government", in other words nonsense. The response from a real official when asked about the story was that America has never approved of Ukraine attacking targets in Russia. He didn't say they should stop and he wasn't reading some official policy. "Not approving" means "We didn't tell them to do it", not "We think they should stop".
