I concur that falls and early winters in Ohio are pretty bleak. I recall two-week stretches in November and December where the sun never came out once. It’s something to be aware of, but I think the worst aspects of Ohio’s weather are the summer humidity and the occasional tornadoes. As far as winters go, you get the occasional bouts of severe temperatures, where daytime highs can be below zero, but (compared to where I currently live) not all that much snow.

Are there any places in the Northwest that are all that affordable? Briggs listed several towns with average home prices near $200K. Whenever a place in Washington or Oregon or Idaho is mentioned, house prices seem to be at least twice that. Come to think about it, the states mentioned in Briggs’ video included AR, OK, IA, NE, WI, MI, OH, KY, MO, and PA. All of these are more affordable than the Northwest (or the rest of the Northeast for that matter.)

Matt - I won’t comment about the Mafia, except that I would not deal with them. One square meter is about 10 square feet. A 1500 square foot condo in the Northeastern US, where I live, would be hard to purchase for $200K, and impossible to purchase for that price in Boston or in New York City. In fact, it would be hard to purchase such a place for less than $1M in NYC. The towns that Briggs mentioned are in relatively inexpensive parts of the US, but can’t be expected in the country as a whole.

I used to live in Ohio. It’s not the greatest place in the world, but I’d consider moving back there. Hilliard sounds really nice. Fort Thomas, KY is probably pretty nice too, but I’m not as familiar with Cincinnati suburbs.
